Believing that Iraq is likely backing Osama bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda and that Saudi Arabia’s system of government is vulnerable, overwhelming majorities of the Canadian public want Canada and other western countries to use taxation and other policies to encourage oil companies to develop new sources of oil and gas outside the Middle East and for consumers to reduce their reliance on oil. A strong majority also favours a continental energy deal with the United States. These are the key findings from a National Post/COMPAS nation-wide survey of Canadians (n=500) conducted October 29-31,2001.
