Federal Government Widely Criticized for Inadequate Response to Terrorist Threats against Jewish Canadians

A National Survey Conducted for the Ottawa Citizen

The Canadian public is strongly critical of the federal government for failing to speak up in defence of the safety of Jewish Canadians following police reports of terrorist threats, particularly in Ottawa. Among the public as a whole, more than two-thirds feel that the government has not spoken up enough, as shown in table 1.

The feeling that the federal government has not spoken up enough is intense. Among Canadians with strong opinions (i.e. those who feel that the government has definitely or definitely not spoken up enough), critics of the government outnumber defenders by a factor of almost 4:1—34% vs. 9%.
