A COMPAS/National Post revisiting of the opinions of business leaders of Canada’s healthcare system presents continuing evidence of divided opinion. The only issue on which some agreement appears to emerge is that spending money on a pharmacare program should not be considered a bad idea but it should also not be a priority. To the extent that new money should be devoted to healthcare, it should be directed to existing programs rather than the creation of new ones. On other issues, business leaders are divided—on whether our healthcare system is a source of strength or weakness for our economy, whether healthcare should receive more money, and whether the system can be successfully improved without more money.

These are the key findings from the current web-survey of CEOs and other business leaders conducted by COMPAS on behalf of the National Post under sponsorship of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and CIBC Small Business.
