A year before the next mayoral election, former mayor Barbara Hall and current mayor Mel Lastman are running neck-and-neck and far ahead of the pack. For any of the “also-rans” to rise up to competitive stature, they will need hard work, money, and probably a smaller number of candidates competing for attention. For the second tier of candidates, the good news is there is still a large number of undecided voters.

At this time crime is at the top of the list of important factors followed closely by local hospitals. Surprisingly, traffic is the least important factor to residents of the GTA.

These are the key findings from the survey of residents of the GTA conducted by COMPAS on behalf of the National Post and Global TV.
