Canadian business leaders want Prime Minister Paul Martin to focus on BSE first, with softwood lumber as a close second, when he turns his focus to international negotiations. While their confidence in Canadian beef is unchanged since last July, half of business leaders think Canada should test more cattle for BSE and more should be done to help farmers keep better records of where feed is purchased. Half of respondents believe that the border was closed to US beef as part of an earnest concern to control the spread of BSE, and at the same time three quarters think the border should be reopened to US beef.

These are the key findings of the BDO Dunwoody/Chamber of Commerce weekly business leader poll for the National Post.
