Canada’s foremost leaders of mid-cap companies say that offshore activity is a part of the Canadian business landscape. Business leaders surveyed estimate that one-fifth of the companies most familiar to them have engaged in or are thinking about offshore activity.

Tax reductions are the most important reason for offshore activity, surpassing cost reduction and availability of skilled labour. These are among the key findings of the first of a series of surveys among mid-cap companies. The surveys are sponsored by Roynat and the National Post.

A total of n=300 CEOs or equivalents of mid-cap firms (i.e. sales of $10-$100 million) were surveyed in March and April, 2004 by professional interviewers using CATI (telephone). Samples of this size are deemed accurate to within 5.7 percentage points 19 times out of 20.
