Business leaders say Canada’s healthcare system’s shortfalls are impacting themselves and business. In fact, the majority of businesses are giving more thought to offering access to private health services in order to attract more senior talent to positions in Canada. Drawing from personal experiences, 87% of business leaders say they would recommend to a friend or loved one with a pressing medical concern to seek faster service outside the government system. They also believe that the family members of physicians and prominent politicians jump the queue in the government health system. With respect to the media reports that Prime Minister Martin receives his medical treatment at a private, corporate healthcare clinic, a significant majority agree this points to the failings of the government system.

These are the key findings from this week’s National Post/COMPAS survey sponsored by BDO Dunwoody and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
