Canada’s business leaders give Stephen Harper the highest trustworthiness scores among the candidates in this election and increasingly identify Harper as the political leader that best represents their own beliefs about government and the political process. There is evidence to suggest that Canada’s executives are less supportive of Paul Martin than they were before and shortly after the ad scandal, with 64% indicating that the Liberals deserve or may deserve to lose the next election , as opposed to 51% who felt this way in February. Notably, the business panel scores for the Federal Government’s performance on the economy are unchanged from January, suggesting that the potential loss in support for the present Prime Minister relates to other factors.

These are the key findings from this week’s National Post/COMPAS survey sponsored by BDO Dunwoody and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
