Canada’s business leaders are warning of potentially significant impacts to segments of Canada’s economy as a result of the NHL lockout. The restaurant and bar industry, for example those near stadiums or those which broadcast games to attract patrons, will be most affected, followed closely by broadcasters who would have sold advertising during the games. The retail industry, for example sports paraphernalia stores, and the Tourism industry will also be impacted to a lesser degree. Further, the money once spent by corporations on hockey tickets will likely not be transferred to other entertainment venues, according to respondents.

Business leaders advise both sides of the dispute to settle the disagreement by introducing salary caps and profit sharing.
These are the key findings of the weekly on-line survey of CEOs and business leaders for publication in the Nationals Post conducted under the sponsorship of BDO Dunwoody and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
