The business panel sees the campaign as beginning with a record number of promises, most of which are of middling value - partly constructive, partly unconstructive.
Among the promises made in the week preceding the survey, the Conservatives outperform the Liberals for the second time. The Conservatives do very well on their tax and defence proposals while the Liberals’ promise of new handgun legislation triggers a backlash.
The big missing element, volunteer the CEOs and business leaders on the panel, is an articulated campaign commitment to institutional reforms that would assure integrity in government.
These are the key findings from this week’s survey of the COMPAS/Financial Post business panel under sponsorship of BDO Dunwoody LLP.
