CEOs and business leaders on the COMPAS business panel foresee clouds on Canada’s economic horizon in the wake of U.S. business difficulties. A record number of panelists—almost two-thirds— foresee negative impacts on Canada as a result of the softening of the U.S. economy.

Though wary of the moral hazard of intervention on Bear Stearns’ behalf, panelists give the U.S. Federal Reserve good grades for its role in the situation. With rare exceptions, panelists foresee more trouble in U.S. financial institutions.

These are the key findings from this past week’s Internet survey of CEOs and business leaders on the COMPAS panel. The weekly business survey is undertaken for Canadian Business magazine under sponsorship of BDO Dunwoody LLP.
