COMPAS Poll/Survey

CEOs and business leaders on the COMPAS business panel were asked about spending priorities, the long gun registry, and the purchase of fighter jets on the occasion of the return of Parliament. The main findings:

  • Parliament should priorize spending controls and debt repayment;
  • Asserting Arctic sovereignty earns a lot of plaudits, more so than acquiring important roles in international organizations such as the U.N. Security Council;
  • The Conservatives and Opposition both earn failing grades for their poor performances in the debate on the long gun registry though the worst performance grade goes to the registry itself;
  • Fighter jet purchase—the right decision though not necessarily well articulated.

These are the key findings from this past week’s Internet survey of CEOs and business leaders on the COMPAS panel. The weekly business survey is undertaken for Canadian Business magazine under sponsorship of BDO Dunwoody LLP.
