Don Cherry and Hockey Night in Canada
A COMPAS/National Post Poll |
Keep Cherry, Maybe Raise His Salary, But Not in Quebec
Among Canadians as a whole, those who favour keeping hockey commentator Don Cherry in his job on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada outnumber approximately 3:1 those who would have his contract terminated, as showin in table 1. Indeed, Cherry is sufficiently popular that the proportion (22%) who would increase his salary is almost as large as the proportion who would have him dismissed (27%). Opinion about Cherry is relatively homogeneous by income, family structure, and other demographic attributes except not by language. Among English-speakers, only 22% would have him dismissed; at least as many, 24%, would increase his salary. Among French-speakers, 50% would have him terminated and only 16% would increase his salary. |
