Ontarians React to Homolka Release and Movie

Ontarians Take Hardline
The public in Ontario, where the Bernardo-Homolka crimes took place, take a strongly conservative position on the post-release treatment of Karla Homolka by the criminal justice system and a largely conservative position about the release of a movie on her crimes:
  • The overwhelming majority of the public favours legal restrictions on her movements, outnumbering more than 5:1 those who favour complete freedom, as shown in table 1; (Please see complete poll)

  • An even larger majority believes that the police ought to inform their own neighbourhood if she moved in, outnumbering 11:1 those who oppose such police intervention, as shown in table 2; (Please see complete poll) while

  • The public is split with respect to the degree of freedom that a movie on the crimes should be given in light of the nature of the crime(s) and the desirability of providing some consideration towards the victim families, as shown in table 3. (Please complete full poll)
