U.S. Presidential Race: McCain by Far the Best on Security; Slight Edge to Hillary Clinton on Bilateral Relations
A BDO Dunwoody CEO/Business Leader Poll by COMPAS in Canadian Business Magazine

The CEOs and business leaders on the COMPAS panel show a consensus on only one aspect of the American presidential contests. By a very large margin, they are convinced that Arizona Senator John McCain, the heavily decorated former U.S. Navy Captain (equivalent in rank to an army or air force colonel) and Viet-Nam POW, would be the best on international military-security issues.

Panelists display no consensus on who would be best for Canada-U.S. relations or the U.S. economy.

In their estimates of overall performance as President, panelists anticipate that Senators John McCain, Barack Obama, and Hilary Clinton would each do well in the White House. Their predicted performance scores on a 100 point scale are in the 60’s, relatively high for public figures in COMPAS’ large normative database. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney trails while former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee earns a failing grade

These are the key findings from this past week’s Internet survey of CEOs and business leaders on the COMPAS panel. The weekly business survey is undertaken for Canadian Business magazine under sponsorship of BDO Dunwoody LLP.
