“Where’s the beef?” might be the main refrain of the CEOs and business leaders on the COMPAS business panel on the subject of carbon taxes and their main alternative, a cap and trade policy.
Panelists remain staunchly opposed to Dion’s policy after hearing the details over the past month. They are concerned about its impact on the Canadian economy. Yet, panelists’ profound misgivings about Dion’s policy should not be interpreted as evidence of support for the government’s policies either.
Panelists remain divided about how persuaded they feel about greenhouse gases as the cause of climate change. Opinion is essentially unchanged since fall, 2007 with a hint of possibly weakening support for the climate change paradigm.
These are the key findings from this past week’s Internet survey of CEOs and business leaders on the COMPAS panel. The weekly business survey is undertaken for Canadian Business magazine under sponsorship of BDO Dunwoody LLP.
